Mentoring students can be beneficial, not only for academic progress but also for social and emotional development. Often students feel more comfortable talking to a mentor about their friendship concerns, bullying or self confidence. In our modern world, anxiety, stress, and expectations are surrounding our children through social media platforms.

We are all working more and trying to fit everything in. This results in less down time spent with family. The National Curriculum now expects more from students at a younger age and many children are not developmentally ready for formal schooling. The pressure put on students to achieve, often results in meltdowns and changes in behaviour which can negatively impact their self-esteem and anxiety.

Finding a balance between work, school and extra curricular activities is paramount. Too many after school activities may also add to the escalation of behaviour and difficulty self regulating.
