Neurodiverse Students

Neurodiversity refers to the way people interact and experience the world around them. It is often used in the context of neurological or developmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) or learning difficulties.

It is important that people are aware of the different ways people learn, think, and behave. Acceptance, education, and inclusion will support and promote an understanding of neurodivergent students and how we can best facilitate a positive learning environment for all students, whether they are neurodivergent or neurotypical.

Schools can support and provide alternative strategies when teaching neurodivergent students, to ensure they have the best opportunity to achieve their potential. Differentiating the curriculum and making accommodations to the way students perform and demonstrate their knowledge is a key factor in student achievement.

Early identification will give students the opportunity to achieve, increase self confidence and engage in the learning program. Ongoing professional development and a flexible learning environment will allow all students to succeed.

Understanding and embracing neurodiversity in schools, communities, and workplaces will foster a positive environment conducive to promoting each person’s strengths and capabilities, while supporting their unique differences and needs.

Estelle provides education to families, teachers, and the broader community, to support neurodiversity and foster a positive learning environment, by implementing appropriate strategies, accommodations and assessments that allow neurodiverse students to demonstrate their strengths and perform optimally in the classroom.
